One World One Heart started out in 2006 when Brother Newman challenged the Edmundians at Vancouver College to take initiative and bring awareness to important issues the world faces. Three years later, the group joined with students from Little Flower Academy, and nowadays, the team works to bring awareness to social justice issues that go unaddressed and encourage conversation, especially among the youth population. OWOH strives to teach young students that not only can they be a part of the solution, they can pioneer it. |
This idea evolved into what has now become an annual social justice conference organized by a student-led committee. The event aims to inspire young individuals to take initiative with their visions of a better society and find ways to actively combat injustices. It brings high school students from all over British Columbia together to take part in thought-provoking activities that are intended to educate students on issues and empower them to take action. |
Every year, we choose a theme to centralize our conference around. In the past, we have focused on shattering gender stereotypes (2017’s iteration - “Limitless”) and eliminating the fear associated with taking initiative for the first time (2018’s iteration - “One Small Step”). Last year, we decided to address issues that are often neglected or deliberately ignored through the theme "The Elephant in the Room." |
